I was told Farscape hits its stride in the second season, but I was not informed it strides down a path of kinky shit and mind fuckery. I approve so hard!
I'm not sure how my IM people feel, however, as I've taken to interrupting our regularly scheduled chatting with context-free exclamations. I'm a little sorry, but sometimes, like, Our Hero is tied to a table while a tiny muppet in a leather mask whips his crotch and PEOPLE MUST BE INFORMED.
The show is willing to admit the possibility of people of the same sex getting it on, although this is always, always played for laughs. (Well, and there was the evil lesbian, I guess.) Sadly, this puts it in front of virtually all space shows that don't have Jack Harkness in them.
And I'm still bothered that, in a galaxy full of red people and blue people and purple puppets, it appears that all the brown people were sent to a deserted planet and then their spaceships were sabotaged so that they couldn't leave. I mean, the entire cast getting fitted with shock collars? If the plot demands it! PoC in space? OMG TOO EXTREME YOU GUYS.

however, if you're looking for a little off-the-beaten-path Farscape fic, I do heartily recommend this really fabulous Scorpius/Braca story.

also later they have transgender fail.
More? There was already that early ep with the space pirate. (Who maybe was not actually transgender, I am not 100% sure what the show was trying to accomplish there, but there was fail of some sort.)
Thanks for the rec! I will keep it for when it's safe to dive in!

And there are very few stories about how Pilot has decided Aeryn is his favouritest person ever, which is actually what I'd be interested in (as of this point).
In the event you haven't seen it, here's a first-season story on that very theme. The author's also written a third-season Crichton/Aeryn story that - in my limited browsing - is the only Crichton/Aeryn story I've found interesting so far.

Woo! Thanks for the recs! I have read *no* fic at this point- I just did the "things I expect from fandom" blurb so I can look back and laugh at myself when it turns out fandom is 90% D'Argo/Rygel kinkmemes or something.

Ahaha, I've barely waded into FS fandom either, but so far it seems like it's all Crichton or John/Aeryn.

You weren't? Dammit, Farscape fandom is failing in its proselytization duties.

Apart from Lani Tupu, yeah. *sighs* Show, I love you and I wish you'd done better on that front.

Apparently!
OTOH, I am a bad sample case, because I get really bitchy if someone tries to tell me about something I vaguely intend to watch. I know there are spaceships! I do not need more details! And anyway, I'm sure my reaction would have been much less !!! if I was warned beforehand about the crotch-whipping scene.
Apart from Lani Tupu, yeah
*nods* Which helps, yeah. Honestly, though, I'm less bothered by the main cast than how every planet they land on seems to be full of white people in funky coloured contact lenses. (Or *without* the funky coloured contact lenses, in which case odds are 60/40 they're talking about bloodline purity. :/ )

You weren't? My god, how did all of us collectively fail you in this? (Maybe we just assumed you knew?) I mean, one of the best descriptors of the show ever is "The adventures of an American trapped in the Australian BDSM scene."

I don't see it as *failing* me so much as letting me having that proper first moment of flailing at my computer screen! It was good times! (I mean, you know how I get if I think you're going to tell me about something I intend to check out.)

Also, if you have a sensitive stomach, stop eating while watching NOW.
Finally, LJ deleted all of my FS icons when I stopped paying more. Frellnecks.

...in which case I really hope the cat icon isn't meant to be relevant. You know. Considering the source so far.

Not, if the cat was peeing or throwing up.......
But I've said too much.

And yes on this:
There is later fail as well in S4. However, in the DVD commentary they rip Jeremiah Chrichton apart on some counts and vaguely acknowledge the racefail.

I have been telling people, at least we *know* what happened to the brown people in this galaxy.
I shall have to check out the commentaries sometime when I'm recovered from the first run through. :)
