odditycollector: Agatha Heterodyne gleefully threatening a dingbot with a screwdriver. "Relax, you should be incapable of feeling pain!" (Girl Genius)

This year I wrote a ReBoot story for my official assignment:

Title: Beyond the Parameters
AndrAIa has learned a trick that would amaze even her coders if they knew. She's learned to be *creative*.

It's been a long time since I played with ReBoot, so it was fun to come back. Even if I ended up with something more introspective than utterly silly, which is the way I usually go for the fandom. (There are still bits which crack me up, because what other fandom will let me throw around phrases like "initialized to zero" with the intent for a payoff in emotions rather than coding practices.)

Then for Yuletide Madness I made 16 haiku for 16 fandoms. You can see them all here.

Some are more associative than others, a couple are meant to be funny, a surprising number of them feature queer women - even the G rated ones. (Yep, I wrote an explicit femslash haiku.) This last point is probably to do with the fact I wrote three times as many ladies as mens, and that is including among them the genderqueer computer program.

I'm also little disappointed with myself, because looking over the characters I wrote poems for, the only CoC are Deeba Resham, of Un Lun Dun, and (I like to think) Carmen Sandiego. I know what happened. I was doing these in a rush - scanning hastily over the prompts for any that caught my eye - and didn't bother either planning ahead or paying attention to previous output. If I do this again I will have to remember that paying attention is important, because there is no way I can blame this level of exhibited bias on the prompts themselves.
I've committed a Farscape/Sandman crossover. I believe that's the first sign of being doomed...

Weirdly, this is something I put together on *Tuesday*.

It's a DCU/Sandman crossover ("crossover"?), which by this point will surprise no one! I should note that regarding directly relevant canon, I've only read the 1988 Martian Manhunter miniseries. But you will still have a hard time convincing me I am *wrong*.

So, that first line game was fun. And I learned that I *can*, actually, write really short things (as opposed to the moderately short things I usually write). Also, I might have learned that am something of a fandom whore, if I didn't know it already.

Here are first line drabble things I've written...

For Penknife: 'Erik looked out over the sea of tents.' )

For lovelyzelda: 'As he drove towards Soho, Crowley didn't bother to avoid the glassy eyed pedestrians who idiotically wandered into the street.' )

For louiselux: 'The water, when it came, was cold.' )

For daegaer: 'And there was war in Heaven.' )

For musesfool: 'He has many names, none of them his.' )

And, if that isn't enough, I played [livejournal.com profile] louiselux's game and put together some ficlets made *entirely* of first lines.

Well, I had a strange afternoon today, at least as far as writing goes. I mean, I sat down in front of my computer with the plan to finish a very specific Good Omens fic, and started typing.

And then, a little later, I had to frown at my word processor and say, "Wait a minute, this isn't the particular GO fic I was going for. This isn't even in the right fandom. This isn't even a fandom I've ever written for..."

So I opened a new file and started typing in it. And then, after a while, I realized that I had, again, missed my target. "This is not the particular GO fic I was going for. In fact," said I, "this isn't even in the right fandom. This isn't even a fandom I've ever written for..."

At this point I was sitting on a drabbley Lucifer thing and an odd Smallville ficlet, so I sent them off to [livejournal.com profile] daegaer and [livejournal.com profile] bravecows's drabble memes, respectively. I couldn't figure out what else they could conceivably be for.

Of course, at this point, I'd written past my daily word count target (unusual, for me), so I debated giving up and having dinner. But then I thought, Nah, one more try.

So I started on another blank page and, um, you might have heard this story before. But, at least, the new fic did have a purpose, because it's pretty much what [livejournal.com profile] yonmei requested.

Because if that last thing the generator gave me had to be written because is was bad and dirty and wrong, this one had to be written because it was so, so right obvious perfect.

I love Sandman crossovers, really. Can you tell?

For [livejournal.com profile] gehayi. And it's almost spent, this game between you and I.

These ended up being GO crossovers, because that's where my mind is right now.

I drank way too much coffee this morning. I suppose this is a good thing, as I made it through my exam without falling asleep, but it completely disrupted my plans to celebrate by collapsing in bed until about tomorrow.

So, instead of a nap, a Drabble With Names In. Sandman, on account of I told myself that I had done quite enough in that fandom for awhile.

Goodly Gifts )
I think it would be much more dramatic to announce my upcoming disappearance and then actually, haha, disapear, but maybe I'm just not very good at drama.

So, to test this theory, I wrote a Sandman Thing which is maybe not so much dramatic, but felt like being written anyway. I'm not sure if I've actually proven anything by this approach, but much fun was had by all. If, at least, by all, you mean me...

She knew the right herbs and the words so old all that remained of them was magic; )

Edit: This belongs to Thessaly, or Larissa if you prefer. I tried going back and putting her name in it, but I couldn't get it to sound right.
This one's probably rated something higher, like R.
