I doubt anyone is following me *here* for Homestuck news, but just in case...

The Homestuck Ladyfest is closing for signups in about 6 hours, so act quickly if you want in!

Last year turned out amazing, guys. And this year has introduced even more lady characters to go around! (So many great ladies. So many great prompts.)
I have spent the last couple days listening to nothing but earnest love songs. And now I am in pain and vomiting a bunch. A casual correlation? I like to believe so.

So anyway, I have a problem with completist tendencies! This one was a very different exercise than the black romances... the world isn't exactly running low on the other sort of love songs and, you know. Completist tendencies.

Yay! I had some sustained internet access last night, so I could finally finally upload this! Of course now I am tired, but oh well. *Two* whole fannish accomplishments this month.

I am going to do this fanmix thing right this time you guys. So right with notes and everything just watch me.

Homestuck fandom has had a *weird* effect with the way I interact with media.

Sometimes I catch myself thinking, Awww, Character A and Character B are so cute together! I hope they fall in friendship.

I wish canon!John Egbert would stop saying things specifically in character for Prize!John Egbert. It creeps me out, okay!

The 'specifically', this time: )
I am slooowly putting together some more traditional solicit Monday mocking, but in the meantime, have a further installment of Drawing Troll Horns On 'American Vampire' Covers: )

Sometime I am going to acquire physical copies of this series and attack it with an orange gel pen. It seems like an inevitable outcome.
[personal profile] melannen wrote a pretty neat post on examples of fictional poly marriage structures in SFF. If you haven't read it, you might like to! It is way more helpful and interesting than the thing I'm going to talk about here.

She used the Homestuck troll romance quadrants as one of the examples (though they don't seem to have actual marriage) and added as an afterthought, It is, however, still awesome to work out troll relationship quadrants for people. This last kinda bemused me, because it didn't make any more sense to me than applying our equally-contrived heterosexual Earth romance norms to the Alternian characters. (Which people *are* wont to do if they think they can get away with it, but whatever.)

But in the name of Science! I tried the exercise as a thought experiment. Supergirl? Well, I see her at the center of a multi-pronged "V", but all her relationships are decorated with tiny hearts. Super*man*? Maaaaybe, but isn't it more interesting to watch him juggle Lois and Bruce and Lex without trying to trap them in ill-assigned categories? On the other hand, there just aren't *enough* categories to cover the Batfamily.

And so on. And I'd have shrugged and just chalked it up to fandom: enjoying it differently, except there was ONE character who actually worked for me! And she is not an alien or anything!

I've you've read the title of this post, you will not be shocked to learn it is Cristina Yang. )

Guess who finally has a Homestuck icon? I think this means we are officially going steady.

(I am not sure what John is looking at, here, but he obviously rates it A++++++++ would giggle again.)
Title: you've been wearing it every day since we met
Fandom: Homestuck
Characters/Pairings: Kanaya Maryamâ™ Feferi Peixes (f/f)
Rating: PG-13
Words: 1200
Notes: Written for [livejournal.com profile] homestuck1000. As also seen on the AO3. The title is from What She Was Wearing by Denver Butson, because I think I am funny.

In which Kanaya Maryam does *not* chainsaw massacre a room of Canadian politicians in a display of romantic passion, but she's kind of bitter about it.

Not gonna reblog everything from tumblr, but I made a few asofterworld mashups. All the cool kids were doing it!

Here's an Amanda Waller one that, yeah. )

Image is from Amanda Waller's family album.

After the Amanda Waller ones, I made waaaay too many animated ones. Like so. I'm a *little* more patient with that feature of Photoshop now, I guess? I still don't find it intuitive, though.

Anyway, it's a fun enough meme, and the results are often worth a giggle, but I don't think I will do any more. It just doesn't feel like I'm saying anything *new*.
[personal profile] petra asked of me "If you had to delete all but 5 of your fanworks, which would you keep?", and I had a much, much easier time answering than she did. There was still gnashing of teeth, but basically I would be a giant asshole if some of these disappeared. I'd keep:

1. My JLU shoes, on account of wow they are fun to wear around.

2. Totally Appropriate Covers, aka what if Frank Miller was into beefcake. It has been almost 5 years, and they are still linked around occasionally. I think that's a record for internet relevancy.

3. Everyone Makes It to the 31st Century. The Legion of Super-Heroes in the Alternate Future where PoC exist. This took so many hours in Photoshop, but some of the responses I got... yeah, it's not going anywhere.

4. The Value of Daughters, which is a fanwork inasmuch as it's dedicated to Lian Harper. Not even my favourite fannish poem thing (Hello, How the Bitch Stole Comics) but I think the sharpest I've ever done. (Content warning for descriptions of violence and brief mention of sexual assault.)

5. Prize, the Homestuck fic I recently wrote. I know it is suspect to list the latest thing you wrote as your bestest and most favourite, but in this case people have mentioned working on fanart and other *really cool stuff*, and the thing is I want to see them. (Content warning for mentions of violence and ableist language.)
It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a fangirl in possession of an extra pair of canvas shoes, must be in want of something to do with them.

(I'm not sure how I keep accidentally ending up with extraneous shoes, but I suppose there are worse curses.)

This is incredibly silly. )

Okay, there is being Jossed, and then there is cut for Homestuck. )
A couple days ago, I tried to explain the basic premise of Homestuck to [personal profile] brownbetty. Apparently she was left with the impression that:

[profile] brownetty: It's like 4chan is writing doctor who, and smoking dope.

...I have assigned myself a tentative A+ in explaining skills.
