The Question of the Week

This week has seen the premiere of both Superman: Doomsday and the second season of Legion of Superheroes, leaving us with the inevitable question:

Which mad cartoon scientist is gayer for Superman?

Your worthy contenders:

A: Lex Luthor.

B: Brainiac 5.

..."Who's your daddy"? Karen, WHAT. (Also, why is that not Clancy Brown's do-me-now voice coming out of Lex's mouth? I reject this n00b who thinks he can pull a Lex!)

It is actually the guy who plays Spike on Buffy!

Oh, I thought I recognized a hint of wanker in his delivery.

:O

Lex is panting.

I'm choosing Lex because I feel the Brainiac 5 simulation needed more showers of flower petals.

Well, I think he cut it off before the part where he miraculously recovers and they get married in a garden with flying birds and fireworks and really pretty outfits and showers of flower petals?

OTOH, with Lex, we seem to skip away just before he gets *even more* naked, so.

MOST DIFFICULT FORCED CHOICE EVER. Why must Superman choose between Luthor's love and Brainiac's? More specifically, how can I possibly make that choice? In both cases, their love is so super.

It depends if you are in the mood for hard s&m porn or bad romance fanfic I SUPPOSE! (Clak, otoh, might be best off running far, far away from either. Srsly, Clark! It can only end in exploded galaxies all around!)

I have to go with Braniac 5! Lex is too much in denial about his feelings, whereas Braniac 5 is totally doodling "Mr Braniac El" on all his binders, surrounded with little hearts.

Ah, yes, well, this is sort of the revolving theme of the series, from what I can tell.

(There was this one episode where Clark breaks their plans to go on a date with a girl he met. Brainy is distraught, and passive aggressives at him until he goes, and then phones him every two minutes until Clark shuts the phone off. And then contrives to get himself spectacularly injured* and is all Woe! until Clark comes back to be upset and saddened at what happens when he takes their twu twu luv for granted. At which point Brainiac 5 is like "Just joking, I am fine! We can hang out now!" and. uh. *handwaves* Then Clark's date gets annoyed at the interruptions and tries to blow everyone up, so the moral is that girls are evil I guess?)

*Srsly, this is a favourite game of his. This other episode, B5 does manage to die heroically in Clark's arms. And then, while Clark is being sad about this turn of events, the rest of the cast shows up and says, like, not to interrupt the melodrama, but actually he is fine. And Brainiac is like, Shut up, I had good reasons! But he is lying really.

I haven't actually seen the cartoon, though I used to read the comics. Did they take all of Brainy's love for Invisible Kid Supergirl and graft it on to Superboy or something? If so, I am pleased at this obvious gesture towards gender neutrality.

So it seems! Although in such a manner as to make the silver age seem like an amazing example of subtlety...
