odditycollector: God/Grumpy Bear OTP! Or something. (Blasphemy)

same crack-time, same crack-channel

It worries me that [livejournal.com profile] daegaer asked for the healthiest pairing of the bunch...

Crowley/Grumpy Bear for [livejournal.com profile] daegaer

This pairing actually doesn't strike me as quite as impossible as one would suppose, on first glance. If Crowley means to import temptation into Carebearland (and I *know* there's an actual name for it. Anybody?) Grumpy Bear is the logical place to start. He lives an idyllic existence in a bright, cotton candy coloured world, and it *isn't enough* for him.

Crowley would immediately introduce Grumpy Bear to alcohol, less because it's the first step towards sacrificing virgins and more because there's only so many seconds a demon can spend in a shiny happy realm sculpted from clouds before needing to drown himself in high quality port. After a couple non-starts, I imagine Grumpy Bear would surprise everyone in the audience by having the alcohol tolerance they ought to have expected of a magical being with no bloodstream, and take very well to the sort of slurred, glancingly introspective conversations Crowley always seems to find himself in after several vineyards.

So it's not hard to see how Grumpy Bear could fall in love with this stranger who filled such an emptiness in his heart as he never knew he *had*. And although Grumpy Bear may not win any CareBear of the month awards unless someone's feeling sorry for him, he's still not *bad* at what he does, and it's easy enough to see that Crowley's a little bit lonely himself. At least, if you're not Crowley.

And GO would be a much easier fandom if our heroes could reciprocate such affection without some amount of conscious thought on their part, but I think here it works *for* us. If he's sufficiently invested in the relationship, there's no reason for Crowey *not* to; because once you accept that Crowley is a demon in the form of a snake pretending to be human (or whatever layering you prefer) getting upset at the possibility of furry tendencies on his part seems a little like missing the point.

I think it'd do them both some good, really.

Aziraphale/Madam Tracy for [livejournal.com profile] louiselux - Pairing of Ow, my brain

This pairing makes me very happy that the GO fandom is not much like, say, the HP fandom. Because there is a small window of time where this becomes the most disturbing possibility EVER, and if we *were* HP you can bet there'd already be a thousand fics focusing on *that*. (And I'm sure some of them would be disturbingly well researched as well. I vaguely recall hearing about some recorded cases of sex-starved Victorian ladies claiming that God or one of His Host had possessed their hands to, uh, help them out?)

Anyway. I think [livejournal.com profile] lovelyzelda hit pretty close with It really doesn't involve Pleasuretown so much as lamps made out of chianti bottles and tea and doilies. They'd be a lovely couple, settling immediately into the quiet, comfortable intimacy stage of the relationship, as most of the former stages were used up when they were sharing the same body for a bit. There'd be a few uncomfortable moments, however, when people mistake Madam Tracy for an older relative of Aziraphale's. Perhaps an aunt.

Mazikeen/Aziraphale for [livejournal.com profile] villianny - Pairing of Tag, you're it

Sometimes people might be right to worry that I'm trying to import my love of creepy things into a fairly happy fandom, and this may be one of those times. There are many characters in GO that would better lend themselves to getting involved with Mazikeen than Aziraphale. War, for instance, would make a pretty nice image, and I think I could even set her up with Crowley with no real brain sprain. Something with Adam might be nicely creepy, as well. Anyway.

Following events in Sandman and Lucifer, there's no real Real split between Heaven and Hell anymore, which may have about as much effect on Aziraphale (or Crowley)'s day to day endeavours as you might guess. But it would mean that there's no reason for Aziraphale not to be pleasant when he recognizes Mazikeen about. (My guess is that Aziraphale's been on Earth since before his Side and the Lilim had their falling out, and he's the sort of fellow to feel compassionate towards the people kicked summarily out of nice places - whether or not he questions the actual decision.) Mazikeen, on the other hand, doesn't *do* pleasant, and doesn't much like angels, and I suspect the future of this ship depends a lot on if Aziraphale can talk her out of pulling a knife and killing him where he stands.

Not that one should ever let that should stand in their way.

Mazikeen/Aziraphale would be fairly screwed up, as these things go. Aziraphale would be in the middle of a moderate to serious existential crisis, suddenly living as he is in a universe where God got bored and left, and Mazikeen would take advantage of that... if she was in the mood. She's utterly devoted to Lucifer, of course, but that doesn't seem to stop her from taking pleasure where she wants. (And there's got to be more to angel-sex than what the human bits allow - pass it on.)

At least you wouldn't have to worry about her respecting him in the morning.

Adam/Elaine Belloc for [livejournal.com profile] vagabond_sal - Pairing of Revelations: The Next Generation

When I first started on this, it turned into a compare/contrast of the two characters which, you know, is interesting, but not quite the question in play.

In my head, if I squish the worlds together and let them continue, Elaine and Adam end up as something like antagonists... not carrying on the War of their fathers, but being on different sides of a point of view. They'd be always trying to convince the other they're wrong, and as a result Elaine'd keep more ties to her humanity than she would otherwise, and Adam'd have a better understanding of the cosmic scope of the responsibilities he may or may not be shirking. There'd be a lot of respect between them, and if Elaine gets infuriated with Adam from time to time, well, it'll be for a lot of the same qualities she admired Lucifer to begin with.

They'd get involved less to do with any overriding romantic love than because it would seem to be the only thing that makes sense at the time. They're both human enough to crave that sort of relationship, and they'd both be put off by the difficulties of finding it with a human, or any less powerful being - it would be like a Sun romancing a Planet. If the planet swerves from its path and remains, who could be certain that this is a choice of the planet and not simply a function of the star? And no matter how much the sun may care for the smaller heavenly body, if the sun is too large, or the Planet comes too close, it will crash, and die, and burn. < / metaphor >

Also, they'd only be cousins in a metaphorical sense, and so that shouldn't really get in the way.

Lucifer (Lucifer)/ The Devil (Brimstone) for [livejournal.com profile] m_butterfly

You said this pairing would be too easy, and you're more or less right. If they came across each other, it would be more of 'well, why not?' type of thing. The end result of the sort of curiosity that drives all cliche'd clone fic.

As anything more than a one night stand, however, it really wouldn't work out. Worse than just not getting along, they'd bore each other. The Devil'd find Lucifer overly haughty and melodramatic, and Lucifer'd find him petty and wouldn't get his sense of humour at all.

You'd probably get some decent snark out of them, though, when they first start to get in each other's way. Of course, pretty soon after that they'll realize any one universe really isn't big enough for even *one* of them, and you'll have to put them back before they destroy either it or each other.

...man, I so want to see some Adam/Elaine fic now.

Err, besides the one I'm working on right now. Because that doesn't count.

[identity profile] odditycollector.livejournal.com 2005-04-24 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
one I'm working on right now.
*perks up* Yay! Something to look forward to.

When I thought about fic possibilities for them, they all struck me as prohibitively epic. Like... The Coming to An Understanding of Elaine and Adam, being otherwise known as "the big one, all of Us against all of Them." Nothing I could do justice.

But you know you probably shouldn't have told me, right? I'm going to be annoying now.

Care Bears live in Care-a-Lot.

Aziraphale/Madam Tracey is healthier than Grumpy Bear/Crowley. Well, not in a Harry Potter way, but in a "not corrupting my childhood" way.

[identity profile] odditycollector.livejournal.com 2005-04-26 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
I've long since given up on keeping my childhood intact. (For instance, did you know there's My Little Pony/Rocky Horror fic out there? ;)

I'm stuck trying to figure out how exactly Harry Potter is healthy, exactly.

I meant Aziraphale/Madam Tracey wasn't healthy if it was done the way HP fandom does such random pairings. Like in a very, very weird sort of way. And possibly involving the squid.

And I've probably done more horrible things to my precious childhood memories than I care to think about. Do you have a link to My Little Sweet Transvestites?
