Legion of Everyone, deleted scenes.

Here are a couple "extra scenes" I made along with the Legion of Super-heroes pages of a couple days ago. Characters I was curious to see in the new universe, but didn't show up really in the first issue.

These are even less finished than the pages I posted yesterday, so I made them extra small in the hopes you will not notice too much. (And you'll have to ignore the cos-playing white kids in the backgrounds. I don't know *where* they wandered in from.)

Nura:

Verdict: ADORABLE. Click for animated gif of before and after.

PS, comics layout people. Having a character pull a, "My eyes are up *here*!" and then pasting the giant panel of said eyes over top of that character's boobs? Kind of a mixed message.

Irma:

I knew going in that I was going to steal someone's melanin. You may be confused, as this was supposed to be the *anti*-whitewashing the Legion project, but I challenge you to find me kickass portrayals of people with Albinism. I will wait. (And be honestly enthusiastic if you know of any! Pass that shit on! For my part, I submit Elijah Snow of Warren Ellis' Planetary.)

No gif, because you can see what she looked like in the panels I didn't change.

Garth:

Because you have to collect *all* the founders, and also I wanted to see how the changes I made to Ayla translated. Verdict: needs tweaking, I think. Maybe less chin (my answer for *everyone*)? Click for gif.

And I also did Brin, but I messed that up entirely and you are missing nothing.

I do not know who Nura is at all and I. don't. care. As a sister she is (as well as looks) AWESOME!

I'm a little hesitant on Irma since she looks more platinum blonde than Albino. But I love that you even -thought- about Albinism.

The only non-evil albino I can think of is Bran from Susan Cooper's YA fantasy series, the Dark Is Rising.

Thanks! I've heard good things about the series, but I didn't know that.

Seconding Bran, as those were some of my favorite books growing up, and Bran plays a major role. (I remember I found a site (http://www.lunaeterna.net/popcult/index.htm) a while back that listed fictional people with albinism, but, without checking it again, most of the portrayals are-- yeah, terrible.) And seconding, guh, Nura. I was very disappointed to find out that she was originally the stereotypical blonde, because wow. She looks amazing.

Yeah, there are a lot of Evil Albinos, which is just so *odd* to me. Srsly, whyfore?

And seconding, guh, Nura.
Yes. She is so much improved! The universe always *meant* her to be black, I think is the only explanation.

Omg, Nura is *beautiful.* I want to do fanart of your manips. Flawlessly done (and a wonderful idea)!

[identity profile] odditycollector.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
Holy crap, if you did, I am not sure we have invented words for how excellent that would be.

And Nura is, yes. The reason I even *posted* the additional content. I think she gets my vote for "most improved"... along with everyone else who has played so far.

Damn, I was hoping I could steal whatever idea you had for Imra for "my" Legion, but I already gave Dream Girl albinism!

Your Dreamer is damn cute, though.

SO CUTE, SHE IS THAT.

I just read through the first Legion recolor and this one. The only noticable differences:
Sun Boy
Dream Girl
Lightning Lad
Lightning Lass
Saturn Girl (just a bit)

The only things that jarred me out of the story a bit were the recolorations of Sun Boy and Dream Girl (though she looks great as an African); but it can't have been any worse than everyone who came to the Threeboot Legion after the Reboot or before Crisis expecting Star Boy to be European.
Otherwise, changing the colors of various other people does NOTHING to detract from the story. Why is DC not doing this again?

Sun Boy and Nura (well, and Vi) are probably the biggest changes, and they both more or less carried an issue themselves. I hope you were able to settle into the story eventually, though.

I wish DC would. So much.

I feel the need to see Nura as African everywhere now. She actually looks BETTER in Threeboot as an African.

Nura turned out AMAZING. She's the whole reason I did issue no. 2.

Kick-ass Albino?

(Anonymous) 2010-04-02 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
LHS member: Mysa Nal -the White witch - although I think she is magically created albino as she looks like she was made from a slab of alabaster or artic snow rather than just being a person without melanin.

:) I considered her when I started deciding how I was going to change everyone, but luckily for me she doesn't show up in the 3boot issues so I didn't have to worry about it. And like you say, she never really read to me as someone who "lacks melanin" so much as is magically whitened.

Maybe she should count, esp. as the list is so small, but my gut says she doesn't. Besides, they gave her black hair now!
