I just watched the Due South ep, Eclipse. Thoughts:
1. "Bobbing For Trout". People let Fraser get away with a *lot* of shit. Perks of being the straight man, I guess.
2. It seems RayK generates his *own* innate "Rob This Bank Right Now Plz" field, suggesting that teaming him up with Fraser isn't the smartest thing for social stability. This explains a lot of the later seasons.
3. RayK says that people told him Fraser and RayV were partners, which means either: a) they officially became partners sometime between the episode where Welsh was asking Fraser if he didn't have friends he could hang out with and season 3, or: b) it sounded less insane than, "So a couple years ago RayV worked on a dead Canadian case, and now he's got this Mountie following him around everywhere. But the Mountie solves cases and we don't have to pay him, so try not to discourage him too much, okay?"
4. Are we supposed to approve of tricking Internal Affairs into dropping their case against our heroes rather than demolishing it using evidence? I mean, yes, that subplot was entirely OTT anyway (also, conflict of interest, ur doin it rite), but. What? And then Welsh has that moment of moral superiority after IA gives up, which. I guess "it is okay to be smug about winning unless you are *caught* cheating," is the moral.
5. And this isn't regarding Eclipse, but Fraser claims that Diefenbaker is half wolf and half he doesn't know what. Which. Dude. Have you looked at Dief? The answer is "Husky" (I may also accept "Canadian Eskimo Dog", on account of some of them look a lot like huskies and might similarly have an opportunity to meet an Arctic wolf).
Other possibilities: Dief is, like the dog who plays him, not a wolf at all. Fraser just tells everyone otherwise because he finds it really damn hilarious when people believe it. See also: "bobbing for trout".
