I don't know if it's possible* to dislike John Egbert! It's like he and Jaime Reyes are left competing in a likeable character contest, and Superman just got sent home. He is this happy, good natured dork on a cosmic adventure quest to save his friends and/or universe, and while he is more than willing to get his baddass on, he understands that there is always time for silly fun along the way! Often involving playing harmless practical jokes on the people, aliens, or giant salamanders he interacts with.
Brainiac 5 aside, the meme did a pretty good job of picking dudes who would enjoy their time hanging out together at a hedge maze.
*(Even Karkat has trouble, and his feelings re: John are best summed up by the first comic here, only instead of a pirate he is a teenaged alien termite who really enjoys romcom movies.)
