It's a filesharing program, conceptually more similar to Kazaa than bittorrent in that you connect to one person at a time. It's good for finding smaller files, like single issues of comic books, or songs. (For movies and tv shows and entire comic book runs, however, bittorrent is better.)
You need to how to find your ip address, and what sort of hub you're looking for (ie, if you want comics, you go to a hub for sharing comics) and you usually have to have a certain amount of relevent data shared yourself (for my favourite comics hub, it's 5Gb) so there's less a problem of leeching. It's pretty handy, actually.
