I think having an outside character decree that "What is *wrong* with you people. This is stupid, and ya'll are crazy! Get out of my courtroom."* was the best possible way to end that storyline.

Not on the 'quality of narrative' scale, perhaps, but as far as 'oh, shit! I am out of paper/the ficathon deadline is in ten minutes/I am bored of this story and not getting enough reviews and besides the alcohol is wearing off anyway' endings go, well. Having an OC come in and notice that the plot to date is too dumb for her to deal with, The End, gets points for telling it like it is.

And even more for this arc being over.
