Man, I was busy with the fannish-output last year. And... kind of eccentric, but I suppose this is not news.

There's a lot of experimenting with different formats - Text! Art! Wacky art-text hybrid thingies! Stealing other folks' rhyming schemes! - and while the signal/noise ratio might still need some work, I had a lot of fun playing around.

(I blame comics for part of it - I've become accustomed to thinking that slapping text and graphics together is *so* a valid way to say something! I have no idea what'd be responsible for the rhyming stuff that infested my journal, however.)

I've got a fairly comprehensive list of Stuff I Did below.

Plus! Bonus A Softer DCU strips that were left on the Photoshop equivalent of the cutting room floor.

Things that got noticed:

With Contex, It Makes Sense. Superhero tampon ads, which was hands down the most popular thing I put together in 2007.

How The Bitch Stole Comics. If there is a lesson I learned from this one, it is to frame your jokes properly! After it escaped from my flist, I could no longer count on my reputation as a famous (hah!) satirist to provide context. (Nor the fact that it is full of silliness. I guess it *is* the internet, after all.)

Does What a Spermatozoon can! In Spider-man: Reign,, Mary Jane is killed by radioactive sperm (for serious). But actually, following through on the Marvelverse's logic, she should have gotten Sperm Powers! And a theme song! Which I have helpfully provided!

Blog Like it’s the Pötterdämmerung Day! (AKA, the fruits of keeping Brown Betty up too late on IM) That time some folks got together and pretended HP7 came early! I didn't keep a list of everyone's posts, alas, but it was fun.

Non-Fanwork/Essays

Why I hate the Legion of Superheroes, by Karen, Number One Fan. Recollections of an eight year old Karen who one day asked herself why all the future people were so white... and came up with a fully satisfactory answer.

I'm really glad I finally got that finished. It was a hard thing to write, not least because it's got so much *me* in it compared to just about everything else I posted here.

Transformers, pt 1, in which I am far too distracted by the ending to have actual thoughts.
Transformers, pt 2, in which it occurs to me there seems to be something off with the way race is reflected within the Autobots.
Transformers, pt 3, in which I reach a conclusion and am sad.

Wizard Magazine: Pay No Attention to the Industry Behind the Curtain. I was angrier writing this than I had been in a long time. Wizard Magazine has a history of publishing things that are *vile*, and it is even more sickening that the industry and artists condone and cooperate with their behaviour.

Art/Comics (Non-satire)

My entry to the Draw Supergirl Meme. Photomanipulated, to get around my lack of drawing skill. (You see those buildings in the background? I was *serious.*) There is a lot that, looking back on it, could have been done better, but then I see her *smile* and I can't help but be totally happy.

A Harvey Dent Post Secret. The only one of these I made this year! Yes, I was shocked as well.

A Softer DCU 1: Batman
A Softer DCU 2: Superman
A Softer DCU 3: Wonder Woman
A Softer DCU 4: Brainiac 5
A Softer DCU 5: The Flash
A Softer DCU 6: Green Lantern
A Softer DCU 7: Supergirl.
I am, overall, very happy with the way this series turned out! I had a hell of a time finding appropriate images for a couple of them, though. Especially the "Flash and a park" one - comic creators have no sense of irony.

For the GL one, I almost used this comic instead (it was pretty!), but it lost the representational quality I was going for in the strip. It seemed to be implying something *totally the opposite* about Hal himself. The moral: Words and pictures! Don't let them contradict each other unless you know WTF you are doing!

It was also a toss-up for #4 between the Brainy one and Lex Luthor. I think that the concept actually fits a Lex-style character better than a Brainiac 5 one, but I liked the story-telling in the Brainiac 5 art. There was angst.

Fic

So Dawn Goes Down. DCU/Good Omens crossover, centred on Tim and the Them.
Upgrade. Stargirl kicks ass.
Of Courses. Amanda Waller/Kara Zor-El, flavoured with my sci-fi fetish.
Because you demanded, the latest disaster: Our trip to the planet and what happened after. Wherein SGA fandom is a victim to the time that I found myself preoccupied with making things that rhyme.
The First Ten Single Sentence Superman Stories. An experiment in finding the edges of the concept of "fan fiction" that quickly devolved into me just having fun writing stuff.
The Second Ten.
The Third Ten.
Regression to Mean. Tim centric: The optimist believes that we live in the best of possible worlds. The pragmatist has rigorous proof. This one has the honour of being the only unprompted story in this list! I was worried I had forgotten how to do that sort of thing.
Into the empty spaces. A Brimstone/Astro City crossover. Ezekiel Stone meets the Hanged Man.
Rules of Castling. Yuletide! The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne cousin-cest. With actual porn in!

Snippets

Mocking Stuff

Video Poll: Which Mad Cartoon scientist is gayer for Superman? Also at the scans_daily comm. The reason I have a youtube account.
Feb 2008 Solicits: Do it Yourself Context. I plastered text onto DC solicit images. Because I make my own fun.
Sept 2007 Solicits: DC Comics Macros. I didn't have any cat photos handy.

Un-manipulated scans

Superman. ASS-LESS PANTS. I *still* can't look at that image without cracking up laughing. Er. Pun *not* intended.
Supergirl in sort of a follow-up to the Contex Post.
Martha Kent's idea of subtlety. Explains a lot.
A Manga Cover that, while I survived it with only slight neurological damage, would probably destroy Terry Pratchett's Auditors by mass brain implosion.

Things Which Are Awesome

The music video of Dashboard, by Modest Mouse
The new Blue Beetle series, by John Rogers
These things are awesome and you should know that.

So, in 2007 I proved myself to be a very silly person with too much time on her hands. IE, it was just like every other year!
