I've noticed some confusion about the difference between the pilot of Virtuality and that of Defying Gravity. Having watched both near-future, astronauts being continually filmed while on a long-term exploration mission shows, I offer my help with that.
Virtuality | Defying Gravity | |

Backstory sexitimes? | yes | yes |
Crew members apparently chosen: | to maximize interpersonal drama | from qualified applicants who cheated on the psychological screening tests |
Malevolent air locks? | yes | yes |
Crew member(s) developing unlikely medical issues in space? | yes | yes |

Annoying reality show type monologing? | constantly | briefly |
Annoying voice overs? | no | yes |
Zero G nakedness? | no | yes |
More to the mission than we or the crew is aware? | signs point to yes | for the moment |
...Is it a non-human intelligence? | Obviously, and someone somewhere is crying bitter tears that we'll never get to the shocking! plot twist regarding its true nature. | Obviously, and I hope you don't mind thematic! musings on faith and destiny. |
Picked up for tv series? | no | yes, airing now |
Sample IM conversation regarding: | Karen: I feel like there is something Ron Moore feels he has to say about rape, but it is not as interesting as he seems to think. Betty: rape: turns out, it's bad. |
Karen: Or the woman who was casting moral disapproval at the biologist lady for destroying rabbit embryos in the name of SCIENCE (seriously, I think NASA needs to fire their psych eval team) Betty: Why would you put someone on your spaceship who has a problem with the science that is going on on your spaceship! This seems very stupid. Karen: Why would you put someone on your space ship who thinks you greet people by pinching them on the ass! Unless this is meant to be our answer to Torchwood, I guess. I mean, we did get sex in 0 g already. |
ETA: Can't believe I forgot. Choice of shipboard entertainment: | virtual reality OF DOOM | youtube and porn |
