Arguments for the Non-Existence of Internet Quizzes

I think I’m losing my faith in internet quizzes. What does it mean, if I put up a poll and the answer I get back is ticky box?

You know what? Just as an experiment, we should find a random person named ‘Ticky Box’ – I’m sure there’s one out there – and nominate them for president/PM/whatever just so that it’s an option on the ballot.

I’d bet the 2000 US elections, for instance, would have been thrown off by such a choice. And the winner is… ticky box?



 
I saw this on friendsfriends, and it seemed like a good way to kill time. You take some names from your list at random, and say why reading them significantly improves your day. I took my sample by getting rid of the communities, and taking the journals that happened to fall in a prime numbered position.

I don’t think this needs to be said, but of course I also enjoy reading the rest of the journals. (If you’re feeling all left out, feel free to leave a comment and I’ll reply with why I love you too.)

 
Your journal makes my life complete because:


1. 0100111 - One day you’ll write a book that’ll sell, like, a hundred million copies, and I’ll be able to say ‘I knew them from before’ and only be slightly lying. You have a way of writing that draws one in, even for your regular-event posts.

2. admiralkatt - You hardly ever update, but your “name” really amuses me. The Second-Greatest American Hero. Heh.

3. afrai - You probably don’t know this, but you’re mostly responsible for getting me into LJ. Really. I found it through your site. Oh, and you write quality fic in fandoms I’m interested in, and you have adventures in England and stuff.

5. angiv - You also don’t update all that much, but when you do it’s often about books. Yay! Books! And I’m usually interested by what you have to say, so. (Plus, your Evil kitty icon amuses me.)

7. athene_51 - It’s the fannishness, baby. Yes, even the ‘doms I’m not familiar with. I’m odd that way. Also, occasionally you write things about Canada in an annoyed/ranty way, and this makes me smile because it really deserves it.

11. brungild - Okay, so we don’t speak the same language. Pfft. You put up these awesome pictures, and they make me happy (or sad, or cold, as the photographs dictate).

13. butterfly - You write good Angel meta. Usually, I just watch the show, not thinking of anything deeper, but reading your posts I get the sense of some bigger pattern, which I can then go, ‘yeah, I remember that bit,’ and it makes the show more interesting. And, yeah, isn’t Illyria cool.

17. daegaer - GO fic is the first thing that comes to mind. You *own* that fandom. But, I think I’d even read your journal without it, because I enjoy your manly Victorians take on the Christian… I hesitate to say mythology, but I don’t mean the religion, per say… *gives up* j00 r0x0rs.

19. destina - I enjoy reading you talk about Stargate, even though it’s not a show I watch or anything. I, um, read fic sometimes? And your Slasher Lexicon icon – heh – makes me giggle every time I see it.

23. gileonnen - Mel pointed me at you, when I was looking for a Very Specific PotC fic. I didn’t find it, but I liked what you had to say. Your posts tend to be very almost cheerful, and you talk about writing a lot. (And you were nice and did a Beta for me, but that’s not for here.)

29. lassiterfics - I already did you. How is that fair? But yes, you write good fic too.

31. limyaael - Your rants on fantasy writing. I’ve agreed with a lot you’ve said, and probably learned a lot more than I’d be willing to admit to. I’m also very amused by the tales of your poor students’ adventures in logical thinking…

37. minisinoo - You write novels for X-men. Um, and put up links to events in the fandom, and sometimes rant about writing, and are generally very interesting to read.

41. planetalyx - You friended me first, which was a little surprising, as you are much more interesting than I am. (You’re a little bit responsible for my getting another fish, because you had this really cute baby fish icon…) You put up cool links, and cute stories, and a lot of what you say is really relevant to me, as we both live in the same general area. Also, there’s books I would have never known about otherwise.

43. priya - You do American politics sock puppets for me (well, and a bunch of other people, I suppose), and talk about fandom things. And have the best icons, like, ever. Yay for icon love. Um. And I just very recently found out that you were the mind behind Prophecy Boy, because I’m slow that way. (And this is my excuse for not sending feedback, and I’ll stand by it until it gets knocked over. Uh huh.)

47. snowballjane - I like reading you complain about your job. Is that wrong? I’ve got you filed in my brain under ‘GO fen,’ but really you post about all sorts of things that are interesting, so it still works out.

53. wabbitseason - I think it was that you do Highlander that caught my attention. Or maybe X-men? Anyway, you do a lot of short fic in fandoms I’m mostly familiar with. It’s like comfort food.

Hee! But I love my job really. So much so that it worries me - whatever do I do next? What could be better than this? They give me a room and a computer and pay me to write stuff.

I've not written any GO-fic in ages, now you mention it. Maybe I should.

As a geek, I must say this both amuses and pleases me greatly.

I'm likely fannish enough for the both of us :D Sometimes Canada needs a kick in the ass. (I always feel weird reading these types of memes, because I think everyone on my friendslist is so fascinating and I'm a boring lump in comparison. You always have something interesting to say!)

Oh! I read that PDF you put up of "My Faith in Frankie" - I loved it. Are there more issues? Do I need to brave the (terrifying) comic book store?

As a geek, I must say this both amuses and pleases me greatly.
As another geek, I must say I was a little tempted to hook it up to a random number generator (But alas, too much work ;).

It really really does. There's been quite a few Americans going 'Screw this, I'm going to move to Canada!' lately, which, yeah, okay, I see their point, but really. Our smartest people are leaving for a reason.

Really? *cackles with glee* My plan to have people understand me has come to fruition! Sort of. Maybe I'll have to face my fear of litigation and put it back up?

Do I need to brave the (terrifying) comic book store?
It's a four issue miniseries, with the last one coming out next Thursday, I believe. (And it's really questionable if it'll ever come out as a graphic novel, as it's so short, so if you want it...) I liked 2 & 3 lots and lots, but I'm not exactly unbiased. As you may have noticed.

Our smartest people are leaving for a reason.

We've got some definite problems (although I think a lot of our policies are excellent, especially when compared with the US). The number of active LJ accounts is higher than the population of my province, which is dropping every day. Our budget came out the other day and they're cutting jobs and raising PST. All of the unions in the province are on strike or staging walkouts. It's craptacular.

I see I will have to brave the comic store. I'll just have to get my act together. I'll find my 1602 #1 and read it, so I can get the other issues plus Frankie, and pick up all of my required reading in one trip.

See, we have two comic stores. One is owned by a creepy old guy, who ignores all of his male customers and stares at the female ones. As much as I love a good ogling (*shudder*), I tend to avoid that store.

The other store is hardcore into D&D. I'm talking 3-D battlefields between the aisles, weekly groups, etc. It's always full of teenage boys with thick glasses and weird, greasy haircuts. Whenever someone enters the store, they pause mid-conversation and watch that person walk around for a few minutes. They're like spooked animals waiting to flee.
