I've just watched the Smallville episode Checkmate because of how it stars Amanda Waller. I made it all the way through this one!
Waller managed to be pretty awesome, if you do not listen to the actual dialogue. Or think about certain aspects of her planning. Note to writers: if you want to have a bunch of characters speak in nothing but chess puns, at least research the game beforehand so they can be interesting ones? Anyway.
There was a weird moment where she was skeeving on Clark (while, if my read is right, insulting his intelligence. "You sure are nice to *look* at. But I like to have my cake and eat it too.") which. caiusmajor? The one about how Clark was going to get a new, female villain who would challenge him in new ways (Me: MAYBE IT IS AMANDA WALLER I WOULD WATCH THAT*. Caia: I DOUBT IT KEEP READING.) and maybe there will be some sexual tension (Me: THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT IS NOT.)? *Some*body is getting an I told you so.
J'onn was pretty kickass also, and I'm coming to believe the hero's journey Smallville traces is actually Chloe's. Basically, everyone else's story was more interesting than Clark's. He was just there for plot exposition purposes -- I suppose it *is* useful to have a character who has difficulty understanding events as they unfold.
Also, there was a SkyTrain in one scene. That is *plus* the exploding one in the credits. I mention this because apparently it is the most exciting part of the series.

I don't even know what to think about Amanda/Clark sexual tension. Whole new frontiers in the whole question of who to pair Amanda up with...
