I've just found out that there's a new tv show called Eureka about a town filled entirely with crazy-smart scientists (like Rodney, I gather. Or House).

I have not seen any episodes yet, but it is already my favourite show ever.

How could a show like that not be excellent?

Please don't anyone start listing the ways; I'm trying not to think about them.

Well, I will say this: the characters are almost entirely stereotypes. But with a few exceptions--THE DAUGHTER*--this actually works; for a setting this weird, having something so standard to begin with in the regular slots is sort of grounding. And they do have the potential to build them into more. I enjoyed the pilot pretty solidly and am cautiously optimistic about the further series.

The show made me realize that fandom has successfully coded me to interpret any male ego contests as a workable basis for slash.

This is very bad, because the snark would be overwhelming.

...wait. What? You mean there's another interpretation?

Woah. Sometimes the internet really blows your mind.

I have to believe there's another intrepretation, because otherwise too many real-life confrontations I've witnessed become scary.
