In news that is the opposite of complaining, people wrote me fic!

[livejournal.com profile] caia_comica wrote me Coluans (well, *Coluan*) vs zombies! This probably was going to happen sooner or later - I did a quick search just now on the chatlogs between us, and the word "zombie" comes up 109 times. ZOMBIES ARE FUNNY OKAY!

And!

[livejournal.com profile] jarodrussell solved Majestros' not getting laid problem. Despite being a tall, dark, well-muscled specimen, the poor guy hasn't had any for a long time. A LOOOONG time. I mean, you'd have to drag out *Methos* for proper laughing commiseration. And. Huh. *There's* an image.

Go, read, and leave bewildering feedback in the form of haikus love.

A while ago I picked up a Majestic trade, more or less at random, and discovered that it was awesome.

It deserves a longer post, full of squee and words like “character” and “pacing” and “nakkid mens” and also making fun of the covers. But I’m not feeling up to all that typing around a central theme at the moment, so instead I’ll just point out that it includes my favourite fight scene ever.

It’s an awesome fight scene, which I say because “awesome” is the theme of these posts and I wouldn’t want there to be any confusion, but that’s not the first word that comes to mind when I’m pushing the series at people.

It’s a very, very *sexy* fight scene. This is what porn would be, if it had less actual, y’know, *porn*, and more people beating the crap out of each other.

And… I’m perfectly willing to allow that this says more about *me* than about the bits of lines and colour on the pages. It's still true. If you’ve never heard of the series, don’t worry – I didn’t know anybody before reading the trade – you pick up all you need from context. (Eventually, yes, I’m going to have to touch on how awesome the creative team is.) From a story perspective it’s really well done, and the art never stops being compelling, and I’d do a scene by scene Yay! Squee! except that this is exactly the sort of essay format I’m trying to *avoid* here.

It’s not the posed sparring you usually get when a couple of super-powered people go at it. Here, once both characters realize there is to be punching, there’s a serious attempt at damage, and, surprise! There’s *drama*. Suspense! Strategy! When’s the last time you could say that about a comic book punch ‘em up?

The entirety of the fight spreads over a couple issues, and I’ve uploaded them here. (Although the trade seems to have a couple extra pages, just a note.)

If that seems like too much work, underneath the cut is half of my favourite part. There’s not much of a spoiler warning; I left out all the bits that aren’t punching.

Bam! Pow! These images will beat up your dial-up connection! )

So then. I showed you mine – what’s your favourite action sequence?
In the continuing adventures of, "If there is something dumb to do, Karen will find a way to do it," I managed to sprain my ankle right before my last exam. It turns out it's *hard* to get around with a foot injury and, as the closest thing to a cane I could find, an umbrella. (Other things which proved more difficult than one might suppose: getting into a shower over the raised edge. Also, twisting the lid off anything shut tighly. I kept throwing my balance off.)

Luckily the medical clinic is just a few blocks away from the exam building, where they gave me a pair of crutches and direct orders not to use the foot for a while. This is *not* the way I had planned to spend the start of my vacation, let me tell you.

However, to make up for some of today, the universe saw fit to convince [livejournal.com profile] farfie_kins to draw a piece of Alan Scott and Jay Garrick fanart. Which is just... I have love.

Alan: You are *sitting* on my *cape*.
Jay: Yep!
Alan: *sulks*
Me: Aw, honey... If you hadn't been magically de-aged, I'm *sure* that would be coming off as a dignified glare.
Alan: *sulks some more*
