odditycollector: Dramaticly lit Alan Scott in a heroic stance. Text reads: "My Fandom's Only Weakness is Wood." (Alan Scott)

Raurgh! I just found out that the reason a long distance friend totally ignored the extended birthday email I sent her was that she did not in fact recieve it. So we both spent a couple months being mildly irritated at each other, when what we should have been doing is pelting Yahoo with bricks.

*goes back and fixes random capitalized phrases*

*starts collecting bricks*

Sigh. Hopefully it was only the one email, because other than asking if anyone didn't get stuff from me... Which wouldn't really work anyway.

Also, yesterday I got a really odd response to my fannish existence in general. Show of hands everyone: does my repeated, I don't *write* Aziraphale/Crowley, really tanslate to, I don't like or understand slash fic at all? Because... I do. I just don't do Aziraphale/Crowley. And it's not like I don't get why other people get A/C, and it's not even like I don't *read* A/C fic (and enjoy it). It just isn't a pairing that lives in my head.

I'm actually kind of insulted. The implication I got was that if I *was* doing it right, I wouldn't be wasting my time on the stuff I've been putting out. *fumes*

If I was trying to make other people happy, I'd be writing in Harry Potter (and probably using better editing skillz). But, as you can see, I'm NOT. The Good Omens universe, in *my* head, is slightly creepy and doesn't revolve around sexual relationships. I'm always happy to see other interpretations, but this one is *mine*.

I don't know. My favourite subtext tends to live as close to the surface as possible - Charles/Erik, anyone? Moon/Zao? Kay/Frankie/Jeriven? ;) - so when someone disagrees with my 'ships, I wonder (a little) if we even have the same canon base. Maybe this is something like that: someone has Aziraphale/Crowley so firmly lodged in their brain that universe just doesn't make sense otherwise. On the other hand, it's not like my GO fics go out of their way to deny that relationship. You can read into it whatever you like.

I think that should be my new motto for today: Bring Your Own Subtext.

sigh.

I want to post something, but my computer (keyboard) is refusing to communicate with my phone (internet). And it's too late to run off to a wireless zone, especially for a mere 400 words, so I guess I'll just have to sit here and be very annoyed.

grr.

In other news, everybody remember that porn I was threatening to write? Well, my first pairing ended up being... Crowley/Car.

*facepalm*

I'm so going to hell.

In my defence, it wasn't *really* porn. I just thought it needed some more words and... got carried away.

*facepalms some more*

Look, I'm spamming my own LJ today!

There's probably a couple people out there, ('specially you, [livejournal.com profile] afrai) who are kind of irritated with me. And I probably deserve it.

I expected, on the day after I finally got exams out of the way, to accomplish a multitude of interesting things. Instead I just mostly slept. (So, I figure, nobody really wants to hear me recount my day: And then at three, I rolled over and bumped into the wall, and was quite comfortable until about five...)

Oh, and much gratitude to everyone who suggested amusing songs to me. Maybe it didn't get me through these last couple days, but it sure made them more enjoyable.

And I think that's about it for the random stuff. Onto the not-so-random stuff. )

But, I'm sure everybody was hoping for a random snippet, right? Right.

So here's a LOTR/Monstrous Regiment thing which I wrote in the comments to [livejournal.com profile] afrai's post. It made sense at the time, which I suppose could be my battle cry.

"Freedom!"
"Remember September 11!"
"Crivens!"
"It made sense at the time!"

Meh. Could do worse, anyway.

Edit: Because Afrai's journal is friendslocked, I'll put the snippet here too.

It probably won't make any sense without the context, which was that there was a (faulty?) claim that Gimli calls Aragorn "Arrie" in the new LOTR movie, and we were all getting annoyed. We're total geeks. It's what we do.

I'm reposting the whole comment because my mind really does work along those lines, and it amused me afterwards.

So I was thinking about the thing I wrote last night, and it occurred to me that, if I had handed it to her, my high school English teacher would have kicked my ass. Well, not really, but she would have made annoyed comments in the margin, I'm sure. (And no, not just because I wrote it at two in the morning.)

Some stuff mostly on fic. )

And then I ramble on names in Sandman. )
